Hexkoel Beperk is the largest of the cold stores in the Hex Valley providing an essential and very vital service to ensure a longer shelf life for the grapes and keeping it at optimum condition and therefore, helping the producers to produce the finest table grapes in the world.

It is the largest precooling facility and probably one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere providing precooling space only to its producers. It has 15 000m2 of cooling space providing precooling space for 10 180 pallets at a time.

Hexkoel was recently transformed from a Co-op to a public company with 172 members as shareholders. Fruit is being delivered on behalf of ± 32 exporters by the producers.

The facilities were recently drastically upgraded and compete with the best in cooling down time, temperature management regimes and conformance to set protocols.

The company was certified and listed for the ISO 9001-2000 Quality management principles, conforms to HACCP standards, is a member of the South African Refrigeration Distribution Association (SARDA) and was recently elected to participate in the USDA's cold chain management phase II programme.
